Affected Platforms/Devices
- All current-generation iOS mobile devices can initiate data transfers using USB-C
1. Step 1: Prepare Both Devices
-Ensure both iOS devices are fully charged or connected to power. Turn on the new (receiving) device and place it near the old one. Confirm that both devices are running compatible versions of iOS.
Step 2: Connect the Devices with USB-C
-Use a certified USB-C cable to connect the two devices directly. If necessary, use a compatible adapter to ensure a secure connection.
Step 3: Unlock and Authenticate
-Unlock the source iPhone. When prompted, tap “Trust This Device” and enter the passcode to authorize the connection.
Step 4: Start the Data Transfer
-On the new device, follow the on-screen setup instructions. Choose the option to transfer data directly from another iPhone using a cable. Confirm the transfer on the source device.
Step 5: Monitor the Transfer
-Keep both devices connected throughout the process. A progress indicator will display the status of the data transfer. Do not disconnect the USB-C cable while the transfer is in progress.
Step 6: Complete the Transfer
-Wait until the transfer finishes and a confirmation message appears. The new device will continue finalizing setup using the transferred data.
Step 7: Disconnect Safely
-Once the transfer is complete, disconnect the USB-C cable. Verify that apps, photos, messages, and settings have transferred successfully.
