Introduction / Description
This article is good for beginners who would like to know how to work Zoom on their Chromebook. Zoom let’s you see and talk to people online, like in a video phone call! Here’s how to use it on your Chromebook.
Part 1: Getting Zoom Ready
1. Open the Internet
- Look at the bottom of your screen. It’s called the “shelf.”
- Find the circle icon (it looks like a colorful beach ball.) Click on it.
- Type “Chrome” into the search bar that pops up.
- Click on the blue circle that says “Chrome.” This opens your internet browser.
2. Go to the Zoom Website:
- At the top of the internet window, you’ll see a long white bar. This is where you type website addresses.
- Click that bar and type: zoom.us
- Press the “Enter” key on your keyboard.
3. Join a Meeting (if someone sends you a link):
- If someone sends you a link to a Zoom meeting, you can just click on that link! It will open Zoom for you.
- If it asks you if you want to open zoom, click “yes” or “open.”
4. Download the Zoom App (Recommended):
- Even though Zoom works on the internet browser, it works even better if you download the app.
- After you go to zoom.us, look near the top of the webpage. You may see a button that says “Download.” Click on that button.
- If you don’t see the download button, look near the bottom of the zoom website for “Download Client.” Click on that.
- Click the big blue “Download” button.
- Wait for the download to finish. It will show up at the bottom of your Chrome Browser.
- Click on the download when it is complete.
- Follow the instructions that pop up on the screen. Usually, it will ask you to click “Install.”
Part 2: Joining a Zoom Meeting
1. Open the Zoom App (if you downloaded it):
- Click the circle at the bottom of your screen again.
- Type “Zoom” into the search bar.
- Click on the Zoom icon.
2. Join a Meeting Using a Meeting ID:
- Someone might have sent you a “Meeting ID” and a “Passcode.”
- In the Zoom app, click the blue “Join” button.
- Type in the “Meeting ID” in the first box.
- Type in the “Passcode” in the second box.
- Click the blue “Join” button.
3. Turn on Your Camera and Microphone:
- When you join a meeting, you’ll see buttons at the bottom of the Zoom screen.
- Look for a picture of a camera and a microphone.
- If they have a red line through them, click on them to turn them on.
- You might see a little pop-up asking if Zoom can use your camera and microphone. Click “Allow.”
4. Talking and Listening:
- When you talk, everyone in the meeting will hear you.
- When others talk, you’ll hear them through your Chromebook’s speakers.
- To stop talking, click the microphone button again (it will get a red line through it.)
5. Leaving the Meeting:
- When you’re finished, look for a red button that says “Leave” or “Leave Meeting.” Click it.
Tips for a Good Zoom Meeting:
- Find a quiet place to sit.
- Make sure your camera is looking at your face.
- Speak clearly and slowly.
- If you don’t understand something, ask someone to repeat it.
That’s it! You’re now ready to use Zoom on your Chromebook.
