2. Open it and search: Tap the search icon, type “DoorDash”, then tap Search.
3. Download: Find “DoorDash – Food Delivery” and tap the button that says Get or shows a cloud icon.
4. Wait: The app will download. When it’s done, you’ll see Open.
If you’re on an Android phone (Samsung, etc.):
1. Find Google Play Store: Look for a multicolored triangle icon.
2. Open it and search: Tap the search bar, type “DoorDash”, then tap Search.
3. Install: Tap Install on “DoorDash – Food Delivery”.
4. Wait: When it finishes, tap Open.
2. Open the app and start creating an account
1. Open DoorDash: Tap the red DoorDash icon on your home screen.
2. On the first screen, look for Sign Up or Get Started and tap it.
3. Enter your basic information
You’ll usually be asked for:
1. Email address:
• Type an email you use and can check (for example, your Gmail or Yahoo email).
2. Phone number:
• Enter your mobile number. Make sure it’s correct—DoorDash may text you a code.
3. Create a password:
• Choose something you can remember but others won’t guess.
• Write it down on paper and keep it somewhere safe.
Then tap Next, Continue, or Create Account (the wording may vary).
4. Confirm your phone or email (if asked)
1. If you get a text message with a code:
• Open your text messages, find the code (usually 4–6 numbers).
• Go back to the DoorDash app and type the code in the box.
2. If you get an email with a link or code:
• Open your email app, find the message from DoorDash.
• Tap the link or copy the code into the DoorDash app.
This step proves it’s really you.
5. Add your home address
1. On the main screen, you’ll see a place to enter your address or it may ask, “What’s your address?”
2. Type your home address:
• Street number and name (for example, “123 Main Street”)
• Apartment number, if you have one
• City, state, and ZIP code
3. When you see your full address appear in a list, tap it to select.
4. You can label it as Home so it’s easy to find later.
6. Add a payment method
You only have to do this once, and you can change it later.
1. Go to Account or Profile (usually a person icon or your initials).
2. Look for Payment or Payment Methods.
3. Choose how you want to pay:
• Credit or debit card:
• Enter the card number, expiration date, and the 3-digit code on the back.
• Other options (like PayPal) may be available, but a card is usually simplest.
4. Check that the numbers are correct, then tap Save or Add Card.
If you’re unsure about entering card details, you might ask a trusted family member to sit with you for this part.
7. Check your settings for comfort
1. In Account or Settings, you can:
• Turn on “Leave at door” if you prefer not to open the door.
• Add delivery instructions like “Please ring the doorbell” or “Use the side door.”
2. You can also turn off extra notifications if they feel overwhelming.
8. Practice with a “pretend” order (optional)
Before you actually buy anything, you can walk through the steps:
1. Type your favorite restaurant or food (like “pizza”) in the search bar.
2. Tap a restaurant, look at the menu, and tap an item to see how it works.
3. Instead of checking out, just press Back until you’re at the home screen again.
This helps you feel more comfortable before spending money.
9. When you’re ready to place your first real order
1. Choose a restaurant.
2. Tap the food you want and then tap Add to cart.
3. When you’re done, tap the cart icon (usually in the top right).
4. Check:
• Your address
• Your payment method
• The total price (including fees and tip)
5. Tap Place Order or Checkout.
You’ll see a screen showing:
• When your food is being prepared
• When the driver is on the way
• A map with their location
10. A few gentle tips
• Take your time: There’s no rush. You can stop after any step and come back later.
• Write things down: Your email, password, and any steps that confuse you.
• Ask for a buddy: A friend, neighbor, or family member can sit with you the first time.
